Story behind the song
A song inspired by Jon Linton's project for homeless people 'I Have A Name' which I read about in the East Valley Tribune. Thanks to Bigfoto.com for the use of the photograph for the cover art.
Lyrics
'Who are We?' All the old folks on The Strand Watching life go by their eyes Lonely times, forgotten plans Ripples cast upon the Thames Mother's dreams go pushing prams Through global news in broken towns Holding hopes in helpless hands Nothing keeping us from harm Who are we, who are we, who are we? Who are we, who are we, who are we? In hurt and hunger who is there? To find the lost and heal the brave Our truth, our sorrow, hard to bear In the tending of the grave Where is the justice in our lives? When greed rewards the careless men We wipe our tears and hear the cries And try to start this world again Who are we, who are we, who are we? Who are we, who are we, who are we? All the young kids looking on Watching life go by their eyes In the shadows they are gone Singing wishes time defies… Mother's hearts as big as seas Love as hard as stones to break Pull the country from its knees Still the lies our trust forsake Who are we, who are we, who are we? Who are we, who are we, who are we? Who are we, who are we, who are we? Who are we, who are we, who are we? © Maria Daines/Paul Killington All Rights Reserved (mcps) ASCAP 29.5.15

Wow..what a hard hitting, relevant, and emotional song. Just wonderful to hear new music from you guys. Maria, your lyrics are always "a cut above" and your vocals just never sounded better. Paul's arrangement and playing are awesome. Loved the fingerpicked intro and the trem was just a killer touch. The soulful outro was a perfect wistful windup. Great dynamics as always and top shelf production. Still amazed, even after all these years...
